We’re huge Mercedes W124 fans here at Imperial Classics and this is a superb example of the Bruno Sacco designed pillarless coupe.  Given their now well publicised and unrivalled longevity, the W124 series really needs no introduction from us but the sheer quality of engineering coupled with a timeless design has generated an impressive resurgence in popularity.  Rightly so.  A classic that’s equally at ease being pressed into service on a daily basis, a weekend toy or cherished in a collection, this W124 has something for everyone.  At this price, perhaps the perfect introduction to classic car ownership.

The legendary M103 3.0 litre straight 6 coupled with the earlier four speed automatic is considered to be not only virtually indestructible but also a beautifully combined mixture of power and refinement.  The silky smooth straight six providing a lovely soundtrack, never intrusive, just right.  There is evidence within the paperwork of recent work to ignition, fueling and cooling systems together with a recent service.  The original Mercedes service book is present and shows 16 stamps.  The car has been in constant use throughout it’s life with consistent maintenance.  It is pleasing to see 30,000 miles have been covered in the past 10 years.  Driving perfectly and supplied with a new 12 month MOT, free from any advisories, is further comfort this car needs for nothing mechanically.

The Smoke Silver paintwork has evidently been maintained and attended to over the years and is highly presentable.  The car wears an original Carat Duchalet rear spoiler, a dealer fit option.  Having recently been refurbished, the original 15 hole wheels shod with new Continental tyres are immaculate.  Also nice to see the correct stainless wheel nuts and genuine Mercedes locking nuts.

The black leather seats with electrically adjustable drivers seat were expensive options in 1989.  The seats themselves are in quite remarkable condition and appear to have never been sat upon.   The electric adjustment works as it should, a common failure point.  The tilt/slide sunroof, so often slow or even seized, operates perfectly.  The original MB radio is still fitted and has been converted to accept Bluetooth connectivity with your smartphone.  The electric aerial is working.  Even the digital exterior temperature screen works.  New genuine ribbed carpet overmats are fitted and genuine rubber overmats are supplied.  The original toolkit, jack and first aid kit are all reassuringly present and correct.  Supplied two keys, original leather key fob and book pack.

A genuinely wonderful car in the classic Mercedes colour combination that has clearly benefited from enthusiast ownership.
